I am using photoshop cs. I have a background which I am placing a photo on top of. I want to blend the photo into the back ground on the top and bottom edges so it looks like the photo dissolves into the back ground. Can anyone help me on this. Thanks.

HELP!!!!

I tried using the procedure listed above but nothing seems to work. I need more detail. I must be doing something wrong. I can get a layer mask icon to appear next to the layer I want to fade but when it comes to making a gradient It doesn’t seem to work. Nothing changes.

Your Gradient should be black & white. Your gradient Mode should be normal. The Layer Mask in the layer Palette should be selected. You can also use a Brush on the Layer Mask.

I am still having trouble, when I use the gradient (white/black) the image on top that I want to fade into the background the image on top fades to white instead of going transparant. This is very frustrating
