Where would I purchase a copy of Photoshop 6.0? I contacted Adobe, and they said they do not sell the version anymore.
Reason being, I am locked into using Windows 98 because of the workflow system throughout the company, so everyone is on 98. We plan to upgrade next year, but until then, I really need Photoshop! Someone suggested E-Bay, but the ones I found just don’t seem to be legitimate.
It is very rare to find a legitimate copy of an old version. I have one, but since I upgraded to 7 and then to CS, I have no legitmate right to sell 6.
Therefore, even though there are tons of 6s around, very few are legit … you will need to find someone who has 6, but stopped using it for some reason, and kept it for the several years since 7 came out, and only now has decided to sell it.
Things to look for on eBay to get a legit version. The price should be between $100 and $300 bucks. Anyone selling a $700 program for 10% of list is selling a copy. Make sure the vendor agrees that the program can be registered with Adobe (be aware that a lot of the pirates will lie). Don’t pay with a credit card, unless you want to risk all of your money, not just some of it.

Is this true? I am under the impression that a credit card charge-back is one of the few avenues of recourse a buyer has when dealing with a dishonest seller. If you are implying that your card number would be in unsafe hands, you should know that many credit card companies offer one time numbers for internet purchases, usually at no charge.
But, check out the item.. its from the ‘adobe-store’ in London. Sure, someone could use that name as a fake name.. but they have a pretty good track record.
My question again is, is there a difference in a European version? I might take the risk.. otherones i’ve seen on there appear very shady..

also it’s illegal to sell oem (original equipment manufacturer) products without the original equipment. I think the last version of full PS to ship as an oem was version 4 and it came with a fairly high end (for the time) scanner.
I also got PS (Limited Edition) with a scanner, but if you check the licence for these OEM products you will find that they cannot be sold independently. Their legitimate purchase requires that they be sold with the hardware. If they are sold separately, they are just as illegal as the Taiwan specials sold on eBay.
The only way to ensure the program is legitimate is to ask the seller if the product can be registered with Adobe. If not, it is not legit. Of course, this means you have to trust that a pirate will tell the truth.
