I am amazed that its takes almost twice as long to open up a document in Photoshop CS as it did in Photoshop 6 (and I am on a new system with lots of memory). I am going to say that CS sucks! Its slow and really doesn’t offer as much as it was boasting.

IMO if an application is updated you would think it would run better then its predecessor but I guess that’s not the way it works. I still can’t believe that a file opens faster in version 6 that’s really sad. And the whole problem with thumbnails compatibility with older photoshop docs…insane how this thing hasn’t been patched to date.

Adobe you guys seriously need to look at your bloatware. I don’t even want to get in into Illustrator because that hasn’t run fast and efficient since version 5.5

Anyone else feeling frustration out there?

and don’t set the memory allocation too high!

So am I. There is something wrong with your setup. I’ve been running CS and 6 on two different machines and CS is generally faster for almost everything.

Dan,

If your legacy images contain Text then CS must convert it to the new format before the image opens. This has been one of the main reasons why folk see long opening times.

Ian,

Are you refering to a text LAYER ("If your legacy images contain Text then…") or to text merged into the back ground layer?

Do you mean by "new format" the new non-backwards compatable Photoshop file format?

I’m just wondering and it sure is not "mission critical" as I only have one file with text layers that I update every year.

Thanks,
Bill

text layer – once it’s rasterized, there is nothing to convert.

The PSD format is still backwards compatible, as much as is possible.

Dan – you need to check out Illustrator CS. It is fast and efficient. Of course, you should also read existing posts before posting exaggerations that you’ll later regret.
