What is the Standard Setting For View/Proof Setup?

I have noticed a dramatic change in my Photoshop 6 program. My images are coming up looking red. When I adjust the color balance to make it look ok in Photoshop, it looks very cyan in all other image viewing programs. I finally traced it to the command View/Proof Setup. Photoshop now brings up all images in Working CMYK. I can get images to look normal again by changing it to Monitor RGB. (I thought Windows RGB would be the correct one but it doesn’t look any better.)

I’ve never adjusted this setting before in the years I’ve had the program, but now it seems to want to default to working CMYK. I don’t usually work in CMYK but I did recently open a CMYK image from my web designer.

Can someone identify what is the "standard out of the box setting" for View/Proof Setup and how I can default to Monitor RGB? Is there some other aspect of this problem I should be addressing? I’m little more than a novice Photoshop user.

Thanks

Paul

She isn’t using CMYK. She designed a logo and because she does a lot of print work she did it in CMYK. For the website we are of course using RGB. Still would appreciate any info about my problem with color balance if anyone can help.

Thanks.
