Hi Shoppers,

today I have been fighting a bit with the creation of a path-selection with the pen tool…

I just don’t get it. What is the advantage of anchor points over let’s say the magnetic lasso. Or is the path tool a remainder of old photoshop 6/7/whatever days?

No, paths are very useful with the stroke commannd and anchor points can be moved and moved again

The Pen tool is by far the best way to make selections of things with hard edges, or smooth curves. The Magnetic Lasso works only on places where there is a strong color difference along the edge; the Pen can be used to select something that has a hard edge, but where the edge is subtle. It’s also going to give you much smoother, more precise selections.

The Pen tool is arguably the most difficult tool to learn how to use, and many newcomers to Photoshop become frustrated with it and do not use it effectively. But it’s an incredibly powerful tool.

I was looking for the pen tool as a selection instrument indeed. I’m particulary glad that you say the pen tool is the most difficult. Gives me back some self esteem. 🙂

Do you know of any good tutorial on pen and selection…I have read a lot of books on Photoshop, but I cannot find one chapter that deals with this….probably it is difficult not only to newcomers…
