Hi,

When I borwse through my images in the file browser, they all have a hideous yellow tinge to them. When I open them, the color is fine.

I have set my color management to the same settings as my monitor, and they display fine when opened/saved/etc., but it’s as if my color settings aren’t applying to the file browser and it’s still reading the profiles assigned to them, which results in this problem.

I’ve tried batch converting all my files to the same color profile as my workspace, by they’re still all screwed up in my file browser. This is a problem for me as I manage thousands of files and want to see the proper colors on them before I open.

Is there any fix/workaround to this problem? Any help would be immensly appreciated!

Ben,

I have set my color management to the same settings as my monitor, <<

Not a good idea…

Monitor spaces are non-linear. Editing spaces need to be linear. You should set your working RGB colour space to something more appropriate such as Adobe RGB(1998)

Len,

Thanks for your reply! I set the color management to Adobe RGB, but that causes a bigger problem in that, when I open pictures (regardless of their source) the images themselves also adopt the yellowish tinge.

I never used to have this problem, and originally I did have it set to Adobe RGB without any problems at all. The whole color management fiasco only started about a week ago. My sister, who is grotesquely incompotent at computers, had been mucking around with Photoshop, so I can only conclude she did something to it. Then again, I’ve checked all the settings out, restored them to normal and even reinstalled the appliction and associated profiles. I have to admit I’m at a loss for what’s wrong, so if anyone out there can help me, I’d grealty appreciate it!

now that you’re working in the correct color space, rerun adobe gamma from the control panel, start with adobe rgb 1998 and modify it. don’t forget to save it under a new name. that should sort out your problem.

Dave,

Thanks for your response! I tried using Adobe Gamma to correct the problem, but no profile I created was able to remove the yellow tinge (which is quite severe at time) from my images. I tried every color profile on my computer, and they all had the yellow tinge, the only difference was the saturation of the yellow-ness. I also created/modified several profiles in Gamma, but they didn’t work either. The only workaround to the problem is to turn of color management, which I don’t like doing (and even turned off, my original problem- yellowish thumnails remains).

Does anyone know if there is any known application that disrupts color management? I ask this since I’ve had photoshop since last Christmas and haven’t had a problem with color management until recently… perhaps I installed something recently that is problematic.

My monitor is an LCD running at 9300k, 1024 x 768

Ben,

My monitor is an LCD <<

Ahh! Adobe Gamma is not designed for use with LCD monitors. Although it can get you somewhere close with some LCD’s, it won’t do so with all.

Try loading the profile that shipped with your monitor and do not alter it in anyway.

Dave,

For a CRT monitor, it’s best to start with sRGB NOT Adobe RGB. Most CRT monitors are fairly close to sRGB and so less adjustment is required.

The default color profile for my monitor works fine for working with and saving the images, but the thumbnails still seem to retain the sRGB setting.

I’ve tried everything I can think of to correct the problem to no avail. I think I’m just going to have to write this one off as one of those unsolvable computer problems. At least it’s not a huge issue, more of an annoyance.

Thanks to those who responded with information on my problem!

What about purging the entire thumbnail cache and letting it rebuild?

Just a shot in the dark!
