I have filled a custom shape with a color, then used Change Layer Content to add a radial gradient. When I use Free Transform to resize, the shape is changed but the gradient size and position are not. It’s as if they are on separate layers altogether. FWIW, there is a link icon between the Layer thumbnail and Vector Mask thumbnail.

I have used both the Move tool and the Path Selection tool (per FT help instructions) to select layer but to no avail. Do I have to rasterize the layer before Free Transforming, or am I missing something?

The layer content is a gradient fill ,it is not an actual gradient. You can resize it if you double click on its thumnail, and changing its settings.

Pierre, I could do that, but it sounds very cumbersome compared with simply resizing the vector shape (and embedded gradient fill) with Free Transform. Why can I only resize the shape (with no degradation) and not the fill as well? I hope I am explaining this clearly…

Because a gradient fill is not a layer with a gradient applied to it, and masked with a vector. The gradient remains editable, and is independant of the external resizings.

OK. Thanks for the explanation.
