On the 8th of this month, I took this photo of a visitor in one of Durban’s many gardens, (this was in the
Japanese Gardens) and as said, he was also only a visitor. Very well a daily visitor, but he and the rest of the
crew(s) are in and out there. Sometimes see what they
can harvest at the houses in the vicinity, or in the
mountains or forests; gone for a few hours
and back in the afternoons. Clever, they know that
is the time when people back from work and go for a braai (Braai – pronounced br-eye- is the South African version of a barbecue) or simply a stroll, and they love
handing out snacks.

I know because I get there quite often, about 5 kilos
from I live.

super cute
Is that an orangutan??
my sister works at the zoo here and will give a talk and she is looking for a great orangutan photo to use for the raffle prize to raise money for trees to feed them in the wild of (brunei? Borneo>?) I forget where she said, but I volunteered my printing services.
Have you got any pictures you might be willing to donate? http://www.miamimetrozoo.com/press-room.asp?Id=23&rootId =10

No, this is the blue vervet monkey. Big populations of them are living here in the city, and despite the fact that they are wild animals, they are instinctive tame to people and trust us. Examples of how tame they are, and how big (small:-) they are can be seen on the first page at:
http://home.intekom.com/davesplace/durban.html

Are you asking only about orangutan pictures or more animal photos? Somewhere I have orangutan photos – got to search therefore – you are welcome to have it.

here I opened the Miami Metro Zoo page now…

..
yeah for this project it does need to be orangutans
those monkeys had a similar cheek pouch so I thought maybe it was a baby orang
I hear monkey’s running wild in human areas can be quite a nuisance sort of like seagull’s when you’re fishing, little theives! is that your little girl?

My sis needs a legally released picture
I think the curator will have one she could use.. (Ron Magill) we are supposed to have a really world class zoo here
there have been many improvements since Hurricane Andrew in 1993 (destroyed the aviary)
and the weather is great for tropical animals (we have no polar bears, but we have Asian tigers)
the exhibits try to mimic the animal’s natural habitat’s.

of that I am sure – in some ways more difficult to work with animals than with people. A vet, for instance, must know much more than a human doctor. Animals can not talk human language.

sheezzz!!! We are so lucky that we do not know hurricanes and so forth! 180 mph – wonder how they measure the speed. The photos are shocking.
You people have hurricanes over there – we have taxi’s
hooting, sometimes as from 4 am, when passing in the streets. Can not really compare, I know.

How about a photo of that cheetah T-shirt – with the content of course

do me a favour – read a few reviews on the Fujifilm FinePix S9600 and tell me what you think of it. Not the 9500 but the 9600. It was announced a few weeks ago over where you are, and is not here yet. I intend getting one, and would like to get a professional view of it. I am using the Finepix 5000 and would not like to be without the 10 X optical zoom. What do you think of it, for somebody who’s income is not from photography?

Yes I have some Oran u tan pictures but they are feeding on a man made platform in the Borneo Rain Forrest. All Monkey are not our friends. I forget the name but think it is a makac or something similar caught in the act of stealing a packet of biscuits from some german tourists.

What we really went for is pictures of Proboskis Monkeys – they are quite rare and it takes a lot of luck and patience to get near to them.

We have used Borneo, generally called Sarawak as Holiday destination for some years. Used it like the Brits use Spain !

I am not the photographer my husband is
so not a good one to ask about cameras
he uses CANON 10 D and we are thinking of upgrading when budget allows for more megapixels (or can rent it if necessary for certain jobs) and we will purchase a stabilizer lens before January (70-200 2.8 zoom tele) without a tripod digital is very sensitive to movement so purchase of light weight tripod is also on the shopping list

My comp is going on two years old so may be time to replace it also on the wish list is a monitor for the studio to see the shots as we are shooting
as of now the comps are in another room

my personal snapshot camera is old now but it was great in its time Minolta dimage 7
has a decent built in lens and decent zoom capabilities
and some nice features
I even have an adapter to use it with the strobes
(I made my husband use it to try digital before we got the Canon, which he hated at first but is now a fan)

we have an enormous investment in EF lenses and although they do work as promised, I felt Canon should have told us that IS would be needed. We chose Canon of course because of all the lenses compatibility and it was not really a lie but misleading. So now we have to buy lenses we thought we would not need to buy again.
already have a 300 mm manual
and a 300 EF 2.8 $$$$$
and so many others
It looks like we have to start over buying equipment at near retirement age, digital like computers is dated in 2-3 years requiring expensive upgrading, not like a 35mm SLR that had similar features and design for over 20 years!!

So far only the SONY has put stabilization into the camera where I think it should be. Maybe look into that brand.

Funny that some advanced digital cameras do not have a stabilizer but my wife’s cell phone (Samsung D820) freezes the images. My Fuji does not freeze the subject and I can not even make a phone call from it.

I must admit, I were actually only looking for confirms that my decision about the Fuji is on the spot. I drove to Umhlanga this morning, to Kodak. Had it in my hands – the familiar Fuji feeling, SLR-type like the Minolta – but the price is much higher then what I have seen on http://www.sacamera.co.za/products.php?cat=140 (and… I still must convince my Katwoman – the Tigerlady:-)

not like a 35mm SLR that had similar features and design for over 20 years!!

So far only the SONY has put stabilization into the camera where I think it
should be. Maybe look into that brand.

I didn’t know the exchange rates for rands? is it?
the Fuji has a fixed lens?
seems for that price the Canon digital rebel or similar might be a better investment
as you can use a variety of lenses.
