We disagree again. Whose side are you on, anyway?

Tell your friends that their self-worth is not determined by a few pounds. A few pounds won’t make as much difference in their health as fretting about it will. If that doesn’t work, find friends who are happier with their appearance. Or use the clone tool to paste some background over their love handles.

There are a hundred ways to change or intensify colors… pick one. Press F1, and see what you find.

Al,

To make people thinner:

Edit > Transform > Scale

Set width to a number less than 100%, leave height at 100%.

How much reduction in width you can get away with without obvious distortion depends on the content. Reducing width to less than 90% will probably be pushing too far.

If only one person is the problem and that person is on one side or the other, do a rectangular selection from the left or right outside border inward, stopping after the person has been included. Apply the width reduction only to the selection.

I have done this successfully on at least two exceptionally overweight people and no-one has picked up on it. When you do modify an image to enhance someone’s appearance, never admit it 😉 !!

If the person or persons are in the interior, with others on either side, you can still select an interior vertical slice and narrow it but you will then have to close the gap and somehow mute the seam. It’s more difficult to conceal the fix.

Using the Liquify tool to reduce over-ample areas is another approach, but it requires more time and skill and is not likely to give you a perceived overall weight-reduction, if that’s what you’re looking for. I have done this rather nicely on a woman in a bathing suit who was gorgeous as is but who felt (obsessively) she was too "hippy".
