When I upgraded from 7 to CS Contact Sheet II started rotating vertical images to horizontal. These same images do not rotate to horizontal in 7.

Do you think it might have something to do with the checkbox in the Contact Sheet II UI that says "Rotate for Best Fit"?

The Rotage for Best Fit dialog box has no effect. It does not function properly, checked or unchecked.

Chris,

Can you confirm whether or not PS8 recognizes and acts on the EXIF orientation tag, and, if so, tell us how it acts and how it differs from PS7?

PS 7 and CS recognize and apply the EXIF rotation tag. It shouldn’t differ from 7.

tx51210 – yes, that checkbox does have an effect, it does what it says.

Unfortunately PS7 and CS do not apply the EXIF tag in the same manner. I ran a test on images in a directory. PS7 properly opens and orients all the vertical images. CS on the same directory opens and orients all the images in the horizontal format.

tx – did you use some other application to try and rotate the images? Odds are that it didn’t update the EXIF data correctly.
