Hi all,

I’d like to remove scratches from scanned negatives. These show up in light color. The "remove dust and scratches" filter in PS CS2 does work, but it also removes dark structures it thinks are dust but which are real.

Is there a way to have a similar filter that works only on structures exceeding a a certain lightness threshold? I’d like to have it as action assigned to a certain key because I need it over and over on selected regions.

Thanks for your help

Dup the image to a new layer, run the filter, and set the layer mode to darken. This will retain the dark areas of the original image. You can also use the layer’s "blend if" sliders to so a similar operation, with more control over what range of pixel values are used in the blending operation. —
