I just bought Canon G7 for $500. The camera gets pretty good review and good user feedback at Digital Camera Review
http://www.dpreview.com . But one thing is really turning me off – straight objects are bent outward at the edge of the images. I noticed this when I took pictures of some tall buildings.

Just to make sure, I took these shots at home. The line where the walls meet at the edge of the image should be straight, but it isn’t.

I own an old and cheap Sony Cybershot 100. I don’t see this problem on pictures from that camera.

After some more digging, this problem is mentioned at Zdnet review for Canon G7:

So do you notice the same problem with your G7? Does that bother you?

That is not a problem with your Canon G7. That is a characteristic of all wide-angle lenses in any kind of camera. The wider the lens, the greater the curvature; and by way of contrast, lenses with longer focal lengths have less curvature, all other things being equal.
