I was looking for some input on this. Using XP and PS7 – some ai files open, some do not. I thought if created at the same level, it would open- in otherwords PS7 would be able to open AI7 files. One of our arists is using AI CS on a Mac, saved as AI7, and I am still unable to open it.

Would someone clarify for me which types of AI files PS7 can open. Does it pay to get AI? I only need to open the files to see and present to customers, I am not an artist, so I generally do not change the art.

Thank you!

Vinnie

If that’s all you need them for, then tell who ever’s sending them to you to save them as PDFs.

Thank you, Bob…

Actually, we’ve resorted to that at times as well as saving in different formats – eps.

Certain Illustrator files have been giving me some trouble and I was hopeing to figure out which types PS7 can and cannot open (parser error).

Worst case scenario I could always resort to the other types or look for a special on AI…

Re: in otherwords PS7 would be able to open AI7 files

Not really, AI and PS are on different numbering schemes (up till CS). AI7 was about the same as PS5 or so.

As well, there might be a problem between cross-version/cross-OS. Adobe makes it so that the same version will work between the operating systems, but it may not work between different versions and different operating systems.

I like Bobs PDF solution. Getting AI is really pretty pricey just for viewing files.

However, the CS Standard upgrade package is a great deal for PS 7.0 owners.
