As CS3 is in beta, is it likely that CS2 will be offered at a "closing out" discount (as they’ve done in the past)?

Thanks,
Alan

Adobe Photoshop doesn’t work like used car dealer. Buy has few options

– Buy the CS2 at current price then spend extra $150 to upgrade to newer version

– Buy CS2 after Adobe announced the release date of newer version, then buy should get free upgrade.

They did in the past. I was offered the full CS for $299 when CS2 was released, but I passed up on it. This is what I’m hoping will happen again as I will not pass it up a 2nd time.

Cheers,
Alan

Offered by Adobe, or offered by a dealer who got stuck with it?

Adobe never do that, and Adobe even do better. Or *if* you already have the legal CS2 then you can *upgrade* to CS3 for only $150 instead of $300

Adobe, in an e-mail offering.

I wish I had not trashed it, but it was an Adobe e-mail offering.

If it’s any consolation, this this was very unlikely to have been a real offer from Adobe. I’ve been upgrading my copy of Photoshop since version 3, and have never encountered such a thing. Adobe would not want to cut the legs off of sales of its own new version. For the same reason, most manufacturers offer dealers a good path to upgrading their inventory, so that old versions of a product will not be dumped on the market just as revenues for the new product are being anticipated.

If it’s any consolation, it _was_ from the mothership, Adobe. I just wish I had kept it to show you.

Then they had a lot of boxed copies of CS on the shelves. They may manange their inventories better this time to avoid having to put up a special offer.

Cheers,
Alan

It sounds like you got the offering from Iraqi Adobe cuz I don’t think the real Adobe would send spam email to offer an older version of Photoshop for lower price.

And like I mentioned above, *if* you *already* have the legal CS2 then you can upgrade to CS3 for $150 that’s $150 cheaper than the $300 deal.

Well, we believe you and I bet Adobe will send you another email soon cuz CS3 will be out soon. Also, if I were Adobe I sure would love to get extra $150 from you instead of $150 like all other Photoshop users <bg>

In August of last year, I received an email offer from Adobe to upgrade from Photoshop Elements 3 to full-blast CS2 for $299.99, which I took advantage of, and it was a bona-fide offer, package came from Adobe, so it does happen.

I’ve owned and registered several of their "light" Photoshop versions since 1999, and I’m in line for a free copy of Lightroom when it’s released in its final version, since I am a registered owner of Pixmantec Rawshooter premium version, don’t know if that has anything to do with the offer I received.

Well, upgrading from PS LE to Full Photoshop for $299 is everywhere, you can find it on Adobe web site, you can find on many online stores selling hardwares relate to graphic (like Wacom tablet, Printer, Scanner). Matter fact, about 2 years or so ago I saw a local store (either CompUSA or Best Buy?) was bundling PS LE (or offering PS LE for $19?) with one of the HARD DRIVE

So, it’s possible for Adobe to send the offering/reminding to registered users of PS LE or other Adobe products to upgrade to full version for $299. That’s completely different than selling an older version for $299

That’s the one!

Now to just hope they do something similar when CS3 launches… I’d happily take CS2 at a rebate like that.

Alan

That wasn’t what you said, and like I said that’s the *upgrading* from "Photoshop LE" to "Full Photoshop" which has nothing to do with what you said before and saying now.

So, if you already have the Photoshop LE then sure you can upgrade to CS3 for $300, or you don’t have to waste your money on the older version.

Alan
