Hey guys I know a lot of things about this program but I am working in a school and they required that I should prepare a lecture about ‘What is photoshop?’ and they gave me 45 min so I think its kinda difficult when you explain a big program like that in just 45 min and its also really short if I am just going to give them a lecture about the purpose of the program only. So I found myself in a hard situation where I don’t know what my audience might be interested about in this program, so if you have an idea about what things I may talk about just give me a hint.. thanks for you time.

I just spent an entire day with a professional instructor telling about PS as a digital painting tool. The same organization has 5 other 8 hour seminars on different aspects of the program. Having said that, you could spend the 45 minutes brushing over the surface of the uses of the program and not the functions. Check Photoshopuser.com to see the variety of topics there for some ideas. Photo manipulation (cut and paste type stuff). Photo correction (color, contrast etc), Photo repair and restoration, Digital art and painting tools.
If you share some examples of each and allow a few minutes for Q&A, you should fill your 45 minutes.

Thanks Scubabix for the quick reply, adding Q&A time is really a good idea and I didn’t think about it before because this my first time to give a lecture 🙂 , unfortunately I am not a NAPP member so I am not able to browse through their archive of articles but I got your point and I’ll search for quick and dirty photoshop techniques to fill in the 45 min in case describing the tools didn’t work, thanks again for the advice appreciated.

As you said, photoshop has so many applications and uses, it’s almost impossible to know where to start.
If they’re schoolkids, they’ll probably be transfixed by anything that has a "wow" factor. So for this reason, I’d probaby start with a few dramatically chopped images showing impossible things. There are plenty of examples of this sort of thing on the net, or if you’re concerned about copyright issues, feel free to use a few of mine:-
http://www.flickr.com/photo_zoom.gne?id=318974850&contex t=set-72157594429816248&size=o http://www.flickr.com/photo_zoom.gne?id=302675533&contex t=set-72157594429816248&size=o http://www.flickr.com/photo_zoom.gne?id=303645420&contex t=set-72157594429816248&size=o Once you’ve captured their imagination, I would move on to explain how this sort of thing is extremely common in the movie and TV world. Then show them some simple techniques that they can easily use themselves to create fun chops.
Then round it all off bu showing how these elements and techniques, in isolation can be used by photographers to enhance and improve their images and turn an ordinary photo into somethnig spectacular, then finally leave them with a few before and after shots of ordinary photos and their enhanced versions.

Hope this helps.

Just show a few fotos (old & new; photoshopped and not) Try to talk about a "wet" darkroom…
Explain how you can do those things with a pc..
(without wet feets…)
Do not talk to much about photoshop..
Let’s take the phantasy to the listeners…
The questions from the listners…

Good advice from Hubert and others.

PS is about images, so stick to examples and minimize the talking. Keep your examples light and fast, and don’t work on one image for more than one or two minutes. Commands crop and rotate, curves, text, clone tool (play this one up), and a few other tools of your choosing. Video is critical. Make sure you have a projection display, or a large enough monitor that everyone can see what you’re doing. Check out the video setup and make sure it works beforehand. Rehearse the presentation with a friend – it’s probably a bad idea for you to use your gf or spouse for this. —

Actually, I don’t usually respond to trolls in that manner. This one just irritated me so much. Someone comes to this newsgroup for some help and gets that as an answer and that just pisses me off.

Right that is a bit jarring. Even if it is some lazy kid wanting homework help or something that is not called for. It makes me wonder whether long hours at the graphics terminal is bad for peoples mental health. I know that the few times I need to spend a whole day, like today, using Photoshop for production I start feel sort of cranky.

first of all I am really sorry for this late reply guys I am still waiting for my cable connection, then I have to say Wow Fat Sam thank you so much you really showed my the whole lecture and I really admire your photoshopped Images its really cool be sure that I’ll take with your advice and talk less visualize more, you H.Schampheleer and Mike Russell suggested to use images instead of just talking with some examples so I think I made my mind now I’ll prepare some before and after images and I’ll think of some photoshop techniques that have the WOW factor 🙂 thanks again guys for help.
