I am using Photoshop 6.0 with Windows XP and am trying to import a number of images from a folder onto a single page. I have tried using the file>automate>contact sheet II however it seems impossible to make the images full size ie with no border around them. Ideally what i want to do is something similar to the file>automate>picture package command however using multiple images instead of one ie choosing a folder and not a single image

can anyone help me

thankyou

Use Image Ready’s Import Folder as Frames feature which puts each image in the folder on a seperate layer in the PSD.

when i tried to use the command which you suggested all it did was open all the files in the folder and animate them so that they form frames of a video. This has nothing to do with what im trying to do. I need to paste the all into a document and be able to adjust the size so that they are side by side

….animate them so that they form frames of a video

Yes … by putting each of the images in seperate layers in a single PSD file which is what it sounded like you wanted to do from your initial post.

Now that you have all of these images in the same file you can adjust the canvas size to whatever it needs to be to accomodate all of this images and size each image layer as you wish and arrange each image on the canvas as you wish.

Goldenegg,

so that they form frames of a video. <<

And do so by creating layers in a file. Save Original, open the PSD in Photoshop, re-size canvas to suit and arrange the layers

Which is pretty much what I wrote in the previous post …

Indeed , but it appeared golden_whatever required step-by-step instructions

…golden_whatever required step-by-step instructions

Yeah, ‘suppose you’re correct. I guess the save and open in Photoshop part seemed obvious to me.

Indeed all there files have been opened in the document however they are layered on top of one aother and in order to achieve what i need i am still required to resize them all manually and arrange them side by side. That was my point in the beginning. There are plenty of ways of opening a series of jpgs in a single file. I wish to have the images imported in uniform sizes and arranged side by side.

Which is pretty much what I wrote in my original post …

And what exactly is it that Contact Sheet II is not doing for you?

I have tried using the file>automate>contact sheet II however it seems impossible to make the images full size

This is determined automatically by photoshop based on the layout that you choose; i.e., number of rows and columns. PS will calculate the required size to fit the number of images that is the total of the columns x the rows.

IOW, they’re sized to fit the layout you choose.

however using multiple images instead of one ie choosing a folder and not a single image

Do you mean that you have "x" number of photos in a folder and a "y" subset of that folder are the images from which you wish to make a contact sheet?

If that’s the case, the only way to do that in Version 6.0 is to view the files with an image viewer and suss out the images from which your contact sheet will be created, and move them to a different folder. Then you can indicate in the Contact Sheet II dialog which folder to process.

So if those aren’t related to the issue you are having, please further clarify what you want and what you are getting.

Peace,
Tony

If you could clarify how Contact Sheet II is able to post the images side by side i would appreciate it (my intention is to not have any background showing).

Contact Sheet automation will not do this.

can you offer an alternative solution?

can you offer an alternative solution?

Not an absolutely automated one where you sit back and let the ap do it all for you, no.

If what you are asking for is a contact sheet with a transparent background, once created you can use a variety of techniques to select/remove the white. Magic wand tool comes to mind for one, another is to create an alpha channel for the first contact sheet, then delete the background. Then you can copy that alpha channel to subsequent contact sheets.

You could also create an action to do it. With your first contact sheet you begin recording an action. Start selecting the images on the contact sheet, then invert and delete (make sure you’ve made it a layer first though, instead of just Background). Then you can run that action stand alone or in batch, depending on how many contact sheets you have to process.

Peace,
Tony

If what you are asking for is a contact sheet with a transparent
background…

I don’t think so. I think that what Golden is asking for is for all the images to touch each other without any space between them … like a sort of mosaic of multiple images that fills the page with no white (or transparant) space surrounding any of them.

So…it could be that a way to do this still involves using Image Ready Import Folder as Frames.
Now you have each separate image on a separate layer automatically. Then … link all the layers together and resize them with one operation. Then arrange them side-by-side/top-to-bottom as need.
Gets more complex, of course, if the images aren’t the same size to begin with … which could be part of the original ‘problem.’ Contact Sheet and Picture Package will at least make different size source images, the same size.
Requires a fair amount of user intervention.

Could be that. I dunno. I tried to clarify exactly what he/she wants and haven’t had nary a response to spell out exactly what is desired here.

Put a fork in me Gracie, I’m done.

Here is what you do.
With the canvas open use the rectangular selection tool and set it to fixed size. type the dimensions you want. Save this selection naming it:
Top Left. Make another one position it where you want it and save it as Top right or whatever. Using guides and snap to guides will be of great help. Using the Navigater you can zoom in in order to position the selection with pixel accuracy. When done save this template and close it.

Now open a picture resize it hit Ctrl+A followed by Ctrl+C and close it Ctrl+W if asked to save say no.Open your template and Go to Edit-Load selection. Load the Top left then do an Edit-Past into. You could also stroke the selection to have a border around the pictures.

You could open all your pictures and an action would put them in there in no time. Further more other actions would allow you to make them say 10% bigger or smaller.

Of course you could just resize the pictures and past them then align them side by side, also using an action. I prefer to past into selection because I can Modify individual pictures zooming in or out without altering the layout.

Hope this helps.
