I’ve just been doing some straightening of horizons on some photos and
used
my favourite trick. I can’t remember where or when I found it, and chances are most would know this anyway, but just in case, I thought I’d share it. Apologies to those who already do know.

Under the eye dropper is a ruler tool. Drag it along a line you want to straighten. Then go to Image>Rotate Canvas and select arbitrary. The
degree
of rotation will already be there for you without having to guess. Very useful if you need vertical verticals and horizontal horizontals!

You are very welcome Robert. I thought I might get flamed for being a smart-ass!

I have the problem that I don’t get to learn the breadth of the application. I’m very proficient with the clone stamp but don’t know a thing about slices or a million other things. What about a tips ‘n tricks list?

Cheers
Andrew

this is a GREAT tip that i hadnt learned until a couple of years ago when a temp showed it to me. We scan a lot of articles and stuff….and it seems not too many people know of the ruler tool (it IS kinda hidden).

Behind, rather than under might explain it. Left click and hold on the eyedropper to reveal the tools under/behind it.

As I remember, the location of the ruler tool moved in Photoshop 7. The locations you’ve been getting are for the new location.

Try searching in Google groups. Unless, of course, you have the manual.

From memory you can use a similar technique using the pen(?) tool to draw a straight line along the edge of the image you wish to straighten. Use the info palatte to see how many degrees of correction are needed then use the value in transform rotate to straighten up.

Hope this helps.
