I somehow got about a 100 files changed from jpg extension to .rec and won’t load anywhere except "Paint" program. No idea what "rec" file is. I can rename them one at a time by changing name to a .jpg, but that will take a long time. Can’t get folder into Photoshop to do a Batch rename either. Is there a way to do this?

Can anyone help me?

TIA,
Dolores

If you have windows XP highlight all the files – right click – and select rename – – then you rename just one – press enter and Windows will then rename them all with a added numeric sequence!!

Dolores,

There are several freeware/shareware programs, that will do bulk rename for you. Na’mo, SuperExplorer, and others will allow you to change the file extension. Try www.tucows.com for renaming utilities. Three click and typing ".jpg" will take care of ALL of them. Too bad that M$ has not added this feature. Also, they should take a note from ThumbsPlus and allow one to Copy/Move and then allow Rename, or Delete if identical, etc.

Download an application to change a bunch of file extensions? Damn, don’t any of you people know how to use a computer?

I DO, I DO!!! ‘Cause I read your post!!
But in all honesty, you refreshed my memory because I have been just clicking the mouse button and have been away from the basics for so long that it completely slipped my poor feeble mind.. (hanging head down sheepishly)

Thank you Harry. I was looking for help in Photoshop only. I will do as you suggest and try not to be so stupid next time!

I just tried that and it renamed them all to "misc" and numbered them, but didn’t change the .rec to .jpg. What am I doing wrong?

Say they are a sequence DSC1000.rec to DSC1150.rec
you would highlight them all and change just one to DSC.jpg (say!) and windows would then change them to DSC (1).jpg to DSC (150).jpg
