The thing to realize here is that Photoshop is only a tool… Like a good screwdriver. You don’t get a great job offer just because you know ‘how’ to use a screwdriver – you must be good ‘with’ a screwdriver, and be able to create valuable things with it.

It would also be wise not to limit your experience strictly to one package – as most graphics professionals employ multiple programs to get things done.

Besides writing books about it (like others have mentioned) you can use it to augment your photography. I have some friends who work for publishing companies that use it, another friend who works for an auction house (very pricey items) uses it to clean up pictures for their catalogs (his primary job is the photog).

Like they’ve also said it’s a nice tool to have under your toolbelt. I am an IT manager I use it to clean up pictures for our website, etc. I also use Fireworks to, depending on my mood.

Prepress, design, advertising work, image retouching, movie special effects…
