Hi,
I just have a few questions about a file that appeared on my desktop while using ImageReady. This is what happened…I completed an image file that I had created in ImageReady and then I saved the file like this…File>Export>Layers as files. This caused my image to be broken up into layers that were gif files. Everything went out as planned except an extra file was added to my desktop. It had a shortcut icon that wasn’t in a gif format and looked like a file looks that has not been unzipped by windows or winzip (white with a window in it and three icons in it). I was a little hesitant about the file so I went to delete it to the Recycle bin, only problem was it would not delete. I tried to move the file to another folder, but it would not move. I also right clicked the file to try to delete it, but all that came up was either "open" or "send to." The "send to" did not work and the "open" caused a window to come up saying that "windows could not open the file," yet oddly enough in this window the file type was blank. I have tried everything and can not get it to work. Please help me!

Right click on the file and choose properties. What does it say?

That is the problem. When I right click on the file all that appears is "open" and "send to".

I’m not convinced that it came from Image Ready, personally. I don’t know what OS you are in but I’ve never seen a file that you can’t get properties on.

I could be way off here, but just on conventional widsom alone, I wouldn’t be surprised if you have somehow gotten a virus that is tempting you to open that file.

As I say, I could be wrong, but it’s suspicious.

Peace,
Tony

Well I’m in XP Home. I also have not seen a file that you couldn’t get properties on too. The thing is though that I have antivirus, spyware and adware. I run weekly checks to make sure that doesn’t happen. Secondly, when I repeat the steps I did that caused the file to occur on my desktop, ImageReady asks to replace the file, so it can not be a virus. I have tried to replace the file and have done it successfully, only problem is that it creates the exact same problem. I have tried uninstalling both my Photoshop and ImageReady, but I had no luck fixing the problem. Also I tried a program that removes files on boot up. Only problem is that when I "browsed" for the file and selected it, the program said that the file was not found, all the while I am looking at it on my desktop. When I tried to go into notepad to delete it I did not see the icon. It is extremely weird. I don’t know what the problem is.

To clarify "repeat the steps"…
I mean I went to File>Export>Layers as files and it created all the right gif’s for the layers and then a popup occured in ImageReady asking if I wanted to replace the problem file.

Jeeze, that’s strange.

I repeat the steps I did that caused the file to occur on my desktop, ImageReady asks to replace the file

Then it’s from IR, as you deduced from the beginning.

It’s odd, and I’m in Win98 so I can’t really try and duplicate it. Maybe someone will see this and shed some light.

Peace,
Tony

Nice job Dave. I’m not convinced it’s the same problem, but you get points for the diligence.
