Of course you can. Just don’t expect all the whistles and bells of later versions.

Photoshop 5.5 works perfectly under XP Pro. I imagine that 6 would also.

Absolutely – I have PS6 installed under XP as a backup, in case I’m in the middle of the Icelandic tundra, or someplace like it, and CS2/CS3 asks me to reactivate over the Internet, I’ll have PS6 to fall back on. —

Mike,

Good reasoning. Until last month, I had a copy of v4 on an older computer, because one specific client needed a special form of duo-tone, that could not be produced on and Save_As a format that one printer could use. This machine had v’s 4, 5 (no 5.5), 6, 7 and CS on it, plus a ton of older 3-D "paint" programs, that would not run on a machine with >512K RAM. I finally cleaned them all out and stuck in 2GB RAM. I’ll replace ME as the OS soon too. After three years of not using any of that SW, I decided that I had moved on and so had that client, or her printer.

Now, to the OP, the answer is yes, but not the reverse – CS, and above, need XP.

Not so. CS and CS2 run just fine on 2kPro and 2kServer.

You’re absolutely correct, regarding the NT OS’s. I was not very clear. What I should have said was that earlier versions of non-NT Windows would not run them. Thanks for the clarification. I had CS & CS2 on my Win2K workstation upon introduction of each. I do not know about NT4, or earlier, but none of the non-NT Windows, ME, SE2, etc. will run them.

Thanks,
Hunt
