I am going to design something in PS which will need to be printed in a variety of sizes ranging from poster size (minimum poster sise A0) right down to business card size. Are there any problems i am likely to run into scaling down a design from poster size to business card size and everything in between? thanks

As long as you are scaling DOWN, you should be fine. If you are using layer effects, you can scale those as well, by going to the layer in the layers palette, right clicking on the effects icon and going to "Scale Effects", or by going to Layer>Layer Style>Scale Effects. If you have CS, you can go to image size, and check scale effects there when you change the image size, and that is a great feature. Main thing is to remember to save the biggest copy you have and keep it in a safe place. You don’t want to have to upscale, that will reduce quality.

Chris,

When you re-size downwards with re-sampling you’re throwing away pixels. Now that doesn’t have much effect on the appearance with moderate re-sizing, but attempting to resample from A0 to a business-card size is most unlikely to give you an acceptable image, as you will be throwing away 15 out of every 16 pixels.

That degree of re-sizing is really only possible with vector artwork.
