Whenever I try to view a RAW format picture in my Photoshop CS2, I get the following Adobe message "Could not complete your request because it is not the right kind of document"
The picture appears as NEF format. (Nikon D80 Camera) I can view pictures taken in JPEG format.
I have checked my photoshop installation and Camera Raw, (which I would like to use) is indeed installed.

I am fairly new to this. What steps have I left out?

Thanks

Your camera is newer than Photoshop CS2, so the version of Camera RAW that came with CS2 doesn’t know your camera. You have to download the latest update of Camera RAW. Go to the Adobe site to get it.

As Johan points out, the RAW converter that is installed on your system is probably too old to recognize the D80’s NEFs. The file will have the same name and extension, but will include newer instructions. Always check out the cameras that are listed (on the Adobe Web site), to make sure that yours is in the list. Camera makers always are tweaking the RAW file structure for each new camera. The only hope is that Adobe issues a new RAW converter plug-in, or one is forced to use the camera mfgr’s RAW converter, then take it to PS. I, like you, always want to do most of my work within PS, even with third-party RAW converters out there. Go check Adobe, look at the list of cameras for the newest ARC, download it, install it, per instructions, then all should be well.
