I have photoshop CS2 and when I start it up it takes forever (like in 3-4 minutes) to finalize everthing it does.

My PC is a Dell with a 3.06 Mhz processor and 2 gig on memory.

Any ideas on how to speed it up? The other programs in CS2 also load slow but photoshop is the slowest.

Thanks

How often do you defrag your hard drive? How often do you delete the temporary files from your browser?

Check the event log for ATAPI timeouts or errors. If you’re getting them, you’ve got a bad disk drive.

How many fonts do you have installed? A very large number of fonts will slow Photoshop’s startup time dramatically.

Watch the splash screen closely. There is a small line of text that will change to tell you what Photoshop is doing. Where is it spending the most time?

I have found that the fewer plug-ins I use the faster the programs starts. I think if you click on edit and go down to the bottom and click on ‘menus’ down at the bottom it brings up a window where you can choose ‘filter’ and from in there you can uncheck plugins that you rarely use. That doesn’t delete them it just doesn’t start them when PS starts up.

You can avoid the directions on how to get to where you need to be by pressing Alt-Shift-Ctrl M The more items you turn off the faster it starts up. (you can remove any menu items this way, so if you don’t use it don’t have it taking time to index the items when the program starts. You can un-do any of this stuff at any time.

Turns out it is the 1600+ plugins that I have that are slowing it down. I turned off the plugin thingy in Preference and it loads fine.
