Render Grid on an Image

Hi there, I need to render a 50×50 grid onto an image in the application I am developing.
This is the image: http://kristandyson.com/images/workspace111.jpg This image contains a Robot with a table workspace underneath. I need to divide the workspace into cells.

The grid will need to be tilted, so that it matches the perspective of the image…

Does anyone know of a free graphics tool that will enable me to render a grip onto an image and then tilt it and move it around on top of the image as a layer?

Or I woulld be prepared to program something like DirectX to render the grid
on the fly, in my application. Any ideas about how to do this?

Adobe Photoshop CS2+ has a "Vanishing point" filter which is used with the clone stamp tool to clean up images in perspective, however it also draws a grid and may suit your needs.
Alternatively Google’s "Sketchup" tool has a reasonably easy to use "Photo-match" perspective editor which allows you to draw out lines in two axis and have it calculate the perspective from that. Also, it’s £0 price tag is a little easier to swallow than Photoshop’s ~£600 if you don’t already own a copy, and you can download it here:

Not really what it’s designed for but the only other application off the top of my head that draws perspective grids, short of jumping into the full 3D design apps such as Maya and 3DS MAX with even higher price tags attached..
Finally, if you want to have a go yourself then a quick hunt on Google turns up plenty of results for how to draw a 2D grid with perspective which would likely be easier in the short run than trying to delve into 3D.
