When you go to File -> Print you will get a Printer dialog box. Next to the word name, select the printer you want to print from. Click print.

Photoshop menu File – Page Setup, then select whatever printer you wish, then the File – Print menu will use it. You must do this everytime you start Photoshop.

Thanks for the reply. I was trying to see if there was a way to make Photoshop use my photo printer automatically each time the program starts (without having to select it).

One way is to have the default printer automatically change when you run Photoshop. To do that, just create a batch file with two lines; place it in the Photoshop directory to
keep things sanitary. Here’s the batch:
======================================

rundll32 printui.dll,PrintUIEntry /y /n "HP Deskjet 970Cxi" Photoshp.exe

======================================
Of course, you’ll change "HP Deskjet 970Cxi" to match the name of the printer you want Photoshop to use.
Do leave the quotation marks in there.

Then just change the shortcut that launches Photoshop
to run your batch file instead.

You’ll probably want to create another batch to run after you’re done with PS, to change back to the normal
default printer.
======================================

rundll32 printui.dll,PrintUIEntry /y /n "HP Laserjet 4"

======================================

Hmm. There must be a way to make a batch file run
automatically when PS exits….

That sounds neat, but how can you trigger it from within the program when you want to print? I commonly open up Photoshop by doube-clicking the file I want to work on, unless PS is already open from opening another file.

Would it really save time?

Probably not without hacking PS. I haven’t found anything in the menus that looks like they expect users to do anything outside the usual print dialog, where you can select the printer at print time.

If you are on a PC…."start", "settings", "control panel", "printers"
(double click). You should see a check mark next to your default printer. Either (I forget) double click the other, or rt. click the other, and you should have the option to set as default.

Thanks for the reply.

My question was if there was a way to change the printer PS automatically picks. Some programs will let you specify a specific printer to be used each time, even if it is not the Windows’ default printer. I like having my general purpose printer as the
Windows default printer.
