Trouble with wacom driver for xp

I plugged my Wacom into an XP computer and it worked perfectly straight out of the box with no need to install the manufacturers CD. I know there are features on the disk that would be of use to me, but when it worked with XP by default, I was just too lazy to install the CD drivers.

Installing the right driver will give you extra features/options to control the pressure and others, or if you use as mouse pointer then you may not have all tablet features (just guessing).

Same with original poster, installing wrong driver may cause problem or the tablet may just work as regular mouse pointer.

Tis true… Can’t easily use it as a mouse without the driver. On the bottom of the tablet is the model number. Use it to find the RIGHT driver. Don’t blindly install drivers in the hope one will work because you’ll damage the hive in the registry where the drivers are installed.

Installing more than one driver usually results in a technician who knows where to look in the registry to remove them. Why? Windows does not by default, remove devise drivers once installed. Worst case scenario is a format of the hard drive and reload software. It happens…

good practice to uninstall old drivers before installing new ones (many come with uninstall program!)
also some good registry cleaners for when it gets messed up never install more than one for each device, that is just asking for trouble

time for system restore….
