Yes. Install them from the Windows\fonts folder and PS will read the folder. You have to use File|Install fonts when viewing that folder if you are adding new fonts to your system.

You don’t add fonts to programs, you add fonts to your OS and then the programs can use them.

Still kind of new with PS, but how do you add fonts to the program? Can you? I run PS7.

You don’t add fonts to a program – you add them to your system.

Hi
Everyone tells me to put extra font files(.ttf)into windows fonts folder and when PS scans fonts it will find them and you can use them.

Well, It never finds the fonts I add. I have them in C:\WINDOWS\Fonts but it doesnt seem to scan them. I use windows XP Home Edition.

Is there a crack-PS-user here that can tell me why it wont read that folders added fonts?

I’m limited to the basic fonts which are boring.

Thanks for the help.

Open the fonts control panel and add them there. It really shouldn’t matter though.

You DO realize that more than likely has nothing to do with Photoshop right?

That being said, you’re going to have to clue us in on what OS, what type of fonts and what folder you’re talking about.

Ok, so you’re using an older version of PS.

In classic, place the fonts in System Folder>Fonts.

If it’s not there then, getting your fonts to work in Photoshop is the least of your worries. 🙂

Ok I know this is a really dumb question especially for someone who has used photoshop and elements for over 5 years but I have never downloaded a font from the internet – If I want to download a font from the internet and put it into photoshop elements – which folder do I put it in? and will it just pop up in my choices of fonts then??? Thanks for your help – sharon

Sharon,

Elements doesn’t have its own set of fonts … it just uses the ones you have installed on your computer. So when you download you need to install them with your other fonts.

If you let us know you set up someone should be able to tell you where they go.

The fonts are not specific to Photoshop, they are System wide. Install new fonts to your Fonts folder. They should appear on the font list when you start up Photoshop.

only install a few at a time in case there’s a bad one and you need to back it out.

in other words, don’t install all 5000 fonts from a free 5000 font cd! 🙂

I wouldn’t recommend installing any of them. <g>

Add them to <drive>\Program Files\Common Files\Adobe\Fonts.
