I have some nice interiour pictures of the local church and would like to embelish a few of them with the effect of rays of light coming in from the window. I have seen a similar effect in one of the many photoshop magazines, which I may have thrown away.

Is there a tutorial anywhere on how to do this?

Graham.

Couple years ago I saw a plug-in with option to do this. And if you are good with Photoshop then you should be able to create yourself using the combination of Layer and Masking.

I haven’t seen a tutorial on how to do this, but you can get that exact effect using this plugin.

I don’t think Light will add Beam_of_Light like through window or trees etc. but some image effects (like you see in the list).

Have you tried the inbuilt > filter > render > lighting effects? or even > filter > render > lens flare

That’s more or less what they are there for!

The built-in lens flare and sport light etc. won’t do good Beam_of_Light, but Photoshop has 1001 different ways to create the ray, and those are very basic too.

Oh, I see. I misunderstood what he was looking for. I though he wanted light coming through a window, but showing where it fell on a wall behind someone or something. I see now that he wants to see light as it’s coming through the window itself. My bad.

My picture was of a baptism. The font is directly in front of a window and I have a shot of the font, window and surround. I wanted just to hint at rays of light coming through the window to make the whole thing a bit dynamic and to capture the moment of the event.

Thanks to all who posted suggestions, I can currently going through them to see which is best.

I checked several tutorials and they all are pretty much have the same idea that most people here giving you. I don’t think that there is any "the best" but try to understand the technique then use whatever basic command that you are very good at. Or you are the one who can make "The Best" of what you know best.

– If you are going to use more than one beam then create each beam on separate layer so you can arange, adjust etc.. separately.

One of the most undiplomatic feedbacks I have seen on Usenet as a reply to people trying to help. So stupid. Whatever you do with the suggestions is your baby – simply say thank you.

Whereas in other places (or other posts) some don’t even say "thank you"

‘Kay, sorry and see this is a culture difference – and maybe more of a personal feeling. Forget it. Many times I find a person must be careful when making jokes over borderlines and also when expressing views like I did here.
