Hello, all,

One of my guys is trying to add a drop shadow to an element for usage in Avid. We can add the drop with no problems, but we end up with a white-ish fringe around the entire shadow.

My partner wants to eliminate this white fringe and only go with the drop. This is a vector image to my knowledge.

Are we missing a step? Does the alpha let some "white" through? Dunno, we’ve never seen this before (rarely import PS images into Avid with drop shadows).

Thanks,

It’s not vector if it has a drop shadow…

The issue is how Avid deals with transparencies. Assuming you have the image on a transparent layer – no white on that layer, then it becomes a matter of figuring out IF (and to what extent) and in what file format Avid will accept the transparency.

If Avid will respect the transparency of a tiff, use that. If it doesn’t, try a PNG-24 (Save For Web).

Peace,
Tony

True on the Vector, I hadn’t checked with Charlie before I said that (it "looked" like a vector from a distance).

The image is on a transparent background (checkerboard as usual), no white, except within the image itself, although the original image was on a black background, which we magic wanded out of existence.

I’ve just learned that ALL of our PS images imported into Avid with drop shadows have had this very same problem, so you may be onto something, Tony.

We’ll check it out and let you know, thanks for the assist.

Tony, you’re a life saver!

PNG worked just fine (we didn’t even bother with TIFF yet), no fringe whatsoever!

Thanks!
