photoshop can do many things but
Photoshop can not paint.
If painting is what you want to do
you are using the wrong pogram.
You are in need of corel Painter.

I hate to tell you you’re wrong, but PhotoShop can be used for painting if you like. Check BertMonroy.com for some original "paintings" that will knock you socks off.

Quoted from one of his pages:
‘All digital paintings
in this section were created entirely in Adobe Illustrator and Photoshop without the use of scans.’
http://www.bertmonroy.com/fineart/text/fineart1.htm

Thus, Bert Monroy also uses Illustrator and Adobe Illustrator is a vector-based program. I would say Photoshop is not a painting or graphics program but a photo editing program. The best photo editing program available, but a ‘photo editing program’.

…. and Photoshop can paint of course, but reading what I said should have made it obvious that I simply mean ‘you can not compare the painting abilities to each other.

I am 99.99% sure I have seen Russell Brown saying somewhere in a book something to the effect of "if you want to paint, buy Corel Painter…"

Dave

I have dabbles with Painter in the past to do things like pencil style drawings that turned out very well. The same with Photoshop. I have used both to dabble in painting styles as well.

What you need to remember is that just about anything holds the capability of being used for creation of a piece of art. I mean you can finger paint….. or you can oil paint….. or you cam paint with 3 hair brushes or 3" wide brushes.

Each is its own media capable of creating its own range of effects. Finger painting can be used to amazing degrees of creativity! We all know what oil paints and brushes can be made to do in the hands of a Master.

Thus Painter, Photoshop and if you will Microsoft’s Paint program are all similarly medias to be used as those finger paints or oil paints are used. It’s not so much, as Mr. Monroy so succinctly put it,"it is the journey".

Many of us here use our photography in conjunction with Photoshop to create our own artwork and thus I put it to you that the combination of Photoshop and a camera are no different in essence than using Adobe Illustrator and Photoshop in conjunction.
