In Imagestyler 1.0 I could create a layer and add a style to it that was invisible. There were many types mainly watery textures and a nice bubble effect. Invis Funhouse, Invis Jitter, Invis Twirl, Invis Vibrate Invis Warp, InvisWatery and Magnify lens, Magnify Glass were some of the names of the styles.
What was good about it was that the under layers weren’t altered, though due to these invisible layers the over all effect was as if my under layers were indeed underwater. Especially handy when some layers contained type.
I’m trying to recreate this effect in Photoshop CS. I note that the filter liquify does something close. It even creates a mesh, if only I could get that mesh into a layer, then the under layers would appear distorted but not altered.
I’ve tried various combinations of multiply and filter distort but no joy. If I could create a similar effect in a distorting/displacing layer I wouldn’t need the finer controls that ImageStyler can do.
Any clues? TIA
