Under any circumstance when I open or create an image. It’s not part of the actual image, just shows you the boundry. And PS has always done it as long as I can remember.
Not the mat, which is grey by default, Between that and your image, there is a thin black line that seperates the two..
Take a screen shot (Print Scrn) and post it on a web site somewhere and tell us the link – doesn’t sound right.
No it’s there tony. open an image and drag out the image window’s borders. ray, i don’t think there’s any way to change that. it’s more like a 3d control effect than an actual border though. you know like the outlines of the buttons in a program (say ps’s option bar). what you’re looking for is a "flat" effect and i don’t think you can control that. it’s a property of the image window’s "form" in the program itself.
Oh I see! I don’t normally see it, as I never use PS in that "mode" – i.e. with a document window bigger than the image area. Typically I use ctrl-0 to neatly fit in the whole image among the pallettes or ctrl-alt-0 to get 100%.
Sorry Ray, you either need to live with this line or change the way you look at th eimage.
just a though, tweaking the windows UI MIGHT have SOME effect on it, but I can’t say what….

It is interesting to see how other people look at their images in Photoshop.
Ray doesn’t want the black border and obviously has a reason for that.

I could care less about the border since it doesn’t print and use that mode a fair bit. Actually, I use it around 90-95% of the time when doing the final fine tune crop.
Somewhere there is probably at least one user that uses the mode and likes the black line.
With just this one thing causing this thread to grow, Is there a Photoshop programer who hasn’t pulled out all his/her hair trying to please everyone with everything??
Just something to keep in mind the next time we complain.
Now if they would just get rid of those @#$%^& instant drop menus at the top……

My gosh. I work in that mode all the time, and never noticed it. It’s teeny tiny, and I can’t see it at 100% zoom because my images are usually larger than my screen – so I wonder what the issue is.
Ah, it doesn’t normally bother me at all, but I was creating a lot of 50×50 icons, and they all needed a 1 pixel black border. Well, half the time I kept thinking I already did it, then when I see the saved image, the border wasn’t there. Not a big deal, just thought maybe there was a way to turn it off that I couldn’t find.
