Is there any way, in the Web Galleries, of setting the image size of the ‘clicked-on’ image?

Yes, there are ways, and there are utils those can genrate the thumbnails (this is what you are looking at) and simple HTML command to view the original.

There were 3-4 aps I tried 5-6+ years ago, and ACDSee was one of them. IOW, I don’t know about the newer ACDSee and others, but you should be able to GOOGLE for dozen freeware to try yourself. It didn’t take more than 2-3 minutes on my older and slower system, I don’t think it will take longer on newer and faster system.
