Batch Rename Window Problem

I am using PS CS on a Windows XP operating system. When I open the file browser, then select Automate, Batch Rename — the Batch Rename dialog box does not stay open in the PS workspace. It just disappears. But when I click on the desktop, there it is, and that’s where I have to do my batch renaming. The same thing also happens with the TIFF Options dialog box. I open it in PS, then it disappears from the workspace, but is on my desktop. Am I doing something wrong? Thank you for any help.

On your desktop, but on the same screen? your decription is a bit obtuse, to say the least…

Is the file browser docked in the well, or is it simply open from View|File Browser?
