Hello,

Could someone advice how to create a PNG image, with transparent background and anti-aliasing in alpha channel only? I mean, an image with edges nicely blending with any background.

Is it possible with Photoshop at all?

Thank you for any pointers,

Tomasz J

The query should be:
Is it possible at all?

No.

To blend you must have the item to be blended with.

The ‘effect’ can be achieved with sharp edges, but not ‘blending’.

False.

A 24-bit PNG supports full eight-bit transparency. The transparency is controlled by the alpha channel. A 24-bit PNG can have antialiased, translucent edges.

There are two ways to do this. The first is simply to create the image transparently in Photoshop using layers; if the edges of the image are antialiased, the PNG will have antialiasing in the transparency.

The second is to create an alpha channel with antialiased edges (all the Photoshop selection tools can create antialiased edges) and use the alpha channel for the PNG transparency.

Thank you. Did you actually mean 32-bit PNG?

PNGs with alpha transparency are referred to in Save for Web as "24-bit," even though technically they are 32-bit (RGBA) files.
