It has occurred to me that being in the US, we use the inches, feet, yard system of measurement. Outside the US, they use the metric system, so I was wondering….when referring to pictures, we in the US refer to the DPI (dots per INCH), or PPI (pixels per INCH). What do those of you in other countries use, dots per mm?

We also use in France the word "inches" for all display systems (screens, tablets, large format printers and even large format camera too) we also use inches, for all that manage with graphic industry and also for some stuffs like car rims and so on, but not yards nor feet, we are accustomed to multiply by 2,54 to find cm. So I assume every country in the world has to use it, because some things need to be "universalized". As I used to travel through UK too, they still use inches for these, whereas "normally" they have to manage with the metric system now…(and maybe euro someday)

In the UK we tend to use metric and imperial interchangeably. It’s not uncommon to hear something described as "2 metres 4 and a half inches long", or "3 foot 7 centimetres wide".

(ps. Some off topic humor….A woman has always loved parrots, and decides to buy one. She saves up her money, and one day, goes out and buys a beautiful parrot.
It turns out this parrot is mean and nasty. It calls her names, cusses her out, and bites her when she tries to feed it. The parrot does this non-stop, 24 hours a day.
One day as the woman tries to feed it, it bites her, as usual. The woman loses it. She grabs the parrot, looks for someplace to put it, and seeing the freezer, opens the freezer door, throws the parrot inside, and slams the door.
Inside the freezer, the woman can here the parrot calling her names and cussing at her, all the while pecking at the freezer door. This goes on for a few minutes, then suddenly, the parrot becomes quiet. With no sound coming from the bird, the woman becomes concerned….."Oh my God! I didn’t want to kill it, I just wanted to get away from it’s constant insults!"
The woman grabs the freezer door and pulls it open. The parrot is standing there looking at her. It says, "I am so sorry I have been such a pain to you. Please give me a second chance! I will never call you names, cuss at you, or try to bite you. I am so sorry that I have been doing that, and I will never do that again. Please give me a second chance and you will be proud to have me as your pet. Can I please have a second chance?"
The woman, staring at the parrot says, "Okay, I’ll give you one more chance."

Parrot: Thank you so much! You will not regret it!

After a brief pause, the parrot asks, "Can I ask you a question?"

Woman: "What is it?"

Parrot pointing into the freezer: "What did the chicken do?"

But you people over there (UK) messed the gallon up, the US have the real one.

Tyre and wheel sizes have always been a bit of a problem. The wheel diameter and width in inches while the tyre diameter is in inches and width in mm.

A gallon here is equivalent to 8 pints.
Your gallon, if I’m not mistaken, is equivalent to one tenth of a cowboys hat 😉

Actually, joking aside, I didn’t realise we measured a gallon differently. How many pints are in a US gallon?

Last time I went in Scotland I had to buy my petrol in liters. Do you changed your measurement systems recently? 😉

Heck, I lived almost 1/2 of my life (38.x years) in the country using Meter, Kilo and I can pretty much be able to smell the calue when hearing the number. I came to country using Galon, Inch, and trying to confuse people with metric system etc.. and now I can only be able to tell how long 1 inch is, but still can’t picture the length of a foot, yard etc.. then oz, quart, pint etc. I am almost totally blind. Now I can’t even remember how long 1 meter is.

And if may help if I have 12" feet, but it’s so sad that I only wear shoe 8-1/2.

And talking about MATH, I got 00 on the simple math because there we used diffent symbol like

1.000.000 = one million is US
1,000,000 = one million in other country
