How do I add text in Lightroom?

I want to add text in Lightroom and I have
followed the instructions.

I add the custom text across the bottom of
the slideshow image, but there seems to be no
way to make this permanent and then save the
photo *with* the text in place.

In Photoshop the layers are fused together in
one step. How does one do this in Lightroom?

You can’t. You aren’t adding text to the image, you are adding text to the slide show. Lightroom is not a full alternative to Photoshop.

Lightroom is RAW *converter* not retoucher/editor

Thanks for the replies.
I am so confused by all the EXIF etc., and
over the disappearing fields I added in the
Exifer EXIF that I am desperate enough to
watermark across the bottom every photo I
have and save them in this form.

The plethora of software can’t take *this*
away form me…!!!
