Yes, SFW strips all metadata.

Ian – which copyright info? EXIF, ITPC, XMP, PSD resource, etc. That could add up to a lot of data added to the file size.

Chris,

If I insert the Copyright info via the insertable fields under IPTC in File Browser or File Info (your tools) you can be assured that I and everyone else who do likewise do it for a reason. Your trashing your OWN data and your doing it to a medium that is already open to abuse. I have no idea which method is the optimum, but if Adobe want folk to start using XMP then Adobe will need to start supporting it in-house.

Actually, looking at the SFTW dialog and navigating one’s way through the Optimize/Edit Output Settings to the Saving Files section would lead users to believe that their Copyright info would be retained by default. Clearly it doesn’t mean that, so what does it mean?

Chris,

to help you along a little read the following from the Help File (Save for the Web) – it’s the last line that you want to read.

Quote:
You set the following options in the Saving Files set:

File Naming

Choose elements from the pop-up menus or enter text into the fields to be combined into the default names for all files. Elements include document name, slice name, rollover state, trigger name, trigger number, file creation date, slice number, punctuation, and file extension. Some options are relevant only if the file contains slices or rollover states.

The fields let you change the order and formatting of the filename parts (for example, letting you indicate rollover state by an abbreviation instead of the full word).

Filename Compatibility

Select one or multiple options to make the filename compatible with Windows (permits longer filenames), Mac OS 9 (filenames may be truncated after 31 characters), and UNIX operating systems.

Optimized Files

Choose from the following:

Put Images In Folder specifies a folder name where optimized images are saved (available only with documents containing multiple slices).

Use Long Filename Extensions (ImageReady) saves files using four-letter extensions for JPEG and WBMP files, if desired.

Copy Background Image When Saving copies the background image file specified in the Background set into the images folder for the Web page.

Include Copyright (Photoshop) includes copyright information with the image. (See Adding file information (Photoshop).)
