Hello…I have been examining the idea of a CRT display for my Photoshop work. I have been reading that Trinitron or Diamondtron(?) are well spoken of, as are Apple display monitors. I don’t anything about the Apple display monitors and I only assume they will work on a Windows based PCI-e video card.

So I am looking for some users who can reccomend which of the 3 work for them and why. Thank-you for your suggestions.

Hi.

I rather suspect you need to, at least, do some research.

As far as I know Sony has already ceased production of all CRTs, and the Apple Displays are, likewise, all flat Panels.

Diamondtron is a Mitsubishi version of the trinatron licensed to them by Sony – i have a diamondtron on a pc which i use for photoshop as a professional fine art photographer and is great – I believe the trinotron CRT is by most criteria (but not all) is better than a lcd or other flat screen.

However I suspect that both CRT’s are no longer manufactured – I can’t comment on the Apple.

The Sony patent on the aperture grille cathode ray tube expired in the mid 1990’s, the Diamondtron and others freely used the same technology.

Apples cinema display is far over-rated.
I am a Mac lover but it can only reach 70 percent adobe RGB gamut.

There are PC monitors that go far beyond this and reach near 100% of the Adobe RBG gamut.
the big dog is the NEC 2690wuxi. This puppy blows away most of the competetion and it’s for PC.

if you’re looking for CRT , most of them are better than apple’s LCD, so just find a decent one at the same price. Viewsonic g225fb seems to be a good choice as per dynamic graphics magazine april/may issue.

Over the last 6 years, I’ve used both Sony Trinitron and Mitsubishi Diamondtron CRTs. There’s no noticeable difference in the quality of the image you’ll see on-screen. However, having had to return the Sony 3 times within 3 years while it was under warranty, I’d say avoid it (if you could even find one). Each time, the problem was that the monitor simply refused to power up, and each time Sony refused to give me further details. When the 4th Sony monitor died 3 months after the warranty expired, I recycled it and bought the Mitsubishi Diamontron 930 – no problems at all in almost 3 years. However, even 3 years ago I had a helluva time locating a seller – bought it from http://www.jigsaw24.com/ but it doesn’t look like they stock CRTs anymore. Good luck!
