I have been using Photoshop 7 for decades with no problems ( it is my favorite program ) but suddenly it will not open.
It goes through all initializing processes but then just dissapears. I went to restore point and tried it about three times to no avail. Any help in bringing it back would be most appreciated.

Thanking you in advance

It might be relevant at what stage the initializing process gets to before it stalls!!
For instance a corrupt font might be the cause (loading fonts will show on the splash screen) or another regular is the plug-in folder! There are workarounds for both of these problems involving trial and error and renaming the folders!
i.e.. rename the folder, create a new font folder, copy half the fonts into and try Photoshop, if that does not work try the other half!! etc. I take it you have reset your preferences!! always the first choice!!

in the time you’ll waste faffing about trying to find the problem you could have reinstalled it

That is very true, but of course if the problem is with one of the folders which is not reinstalled (fonts for instance!!), then it will still be there! reinstall or not!!

I did just that. I removed it from my add/remove programs and reinstalled it with the correct serial number
but the same thing happens. One of the folders must be the problem, but how do I find out which one, and then
how do I delete it ?

Seeing you are dealing with a computer, have a look at the Event Log it may just be able to tell you what is wrong.
Start/Settings/Administrative Tools/Event Viewer if you are using Windows Borge in sunny Perth, Australia

Isn’t there something up in the Adobe Knowledgebase about how to do a complete uninstall on PS7, if you just do an uninstall it leaves some files, which have to be removed manually.

Try this – while starting up, press the control, alt, and shift keys. At the prompt to delete preferences, choose yes.

Delete your preferences, this is usually a sign that they are corrupt.

Has your computer crashed while Photoshop was open? I have learned that when it crashes, it will save its temp file. If that happens a lot or with larger temp files, then all the temp space will be held, until finally, photoshop crashes as soon as it opens. See if you have any large temp files that need to be deleted.
