There is a problem with my friends photoshop whenever he opens it then it shuts down again. It says reading brushes and after that it closes can you explain the reason why and how i can help him fix this.

Try trashing prefs. Details in the FAQs.

I would try actually uninstalling photoshop which would include making sure the actual photoshop folder was deleted… then reinstall it in safe mode. There is an actually with some of the update installed on windows that caused this issue sometimes trashing the prefs can fix it but most of the time it was reinstalling in safe mode

I thought that uninstalling the program left the preferences unchanged!

Depends on the version and OS I guess.

at least from v6 on it does…
