Can’t open JPG’s with PS 7.01

When trying to open jpeg files from within PS 7.01 (Windows 2K) or by "open with" or by double-clicking the file in Windows Explorer, the file will not open and I get the message "Could not complete your request because of a program error". My tech rep logged onto my computer with his ID and the program worked fine – opened all jpeg’s with any method. He had to run off to meetings today and won’t be able to help me until tomorrow. Does anyone have an idea on a setting or something else that could be causing this problem for me?

Not a solution to your problem, but this may allow you to work in his absence…

Can you open the file if you drag-n-drop it onto Photoshop when PS is open? Or can you File|Open from within Photoshop?

I get the same error message when trying to drag and drop into Photoshop while it’s open. Plus the same message appears when trying the File/Open method.

Sounds like you need to do a reset prefs per FAQ.

Well, I thought of that too Colin (HI, by the way), but I’m wondering if it has to do with Administrative rights because the logon his tech used didn’t exhibit the problem. But I’m in Win98SE, so I don’t know enough about it to even see. I was hoping someone would chime in with info, but in the absence of that… yeah, I guess, try deleting preferences.

could be either, but i’d bet on the prefs first. rememeber there’s a different set of prefrences for each user.

I have admin rights and did delete the preferences following the directions in the FAQ’s. Still doesn’t work!
