I am a Professional Photographer, a Professional Photo Finisher, and a Professional Photo Restorer. I am not some one who learned on the job, I have degrees. I use Adobe PhotoShop CS every day.

The above mentioned statements are to let others know that I know what I am doing.

My problem is that I don’t seem to be able to print black and white pictures in true greyscale. At work and at home I have manipulated the color balance to reflect something close, but I want the real thing.

Has anyone solved this problem?

Thank you in advance for any help you can give.

Here are my professional websites.

If you are attempting to print grayscale photos using a CMYK inkset, you are bound to be disappointed. There are numerous quadtone (4 shades of gray) inksets available for monochrome printing.

Above are two links to sites that have solutions for your problem. Both Piezography and MIS Quadtone inks have their fans. This type solution is probably the best for serious B&W work.

Photo,

What type of printer are you having problems with? How exactly are you sending the data to the printer, conversion to what profiles etc?

I am printing damn good B&W with both the Canon S9000 (can’t be done, say the detractors) for my restoration clients, and even better B&W from the Epson 9600.

It all comes down to calibration.
