hi

i just installed photoshop cs3 and for some reason i can’t open .gifs anymore. i have the same program on another computer of mine and it works just fine. i think it has something to do with image handling preferences… but i’m not sure where to change this.

help, please?

Photoshop is an image editor *not* image viewer so when it supports GIF (not GIFS) but can’t open your GIF then there may be a chance (I am guessing) that it isn’t GIF format (been renamed to GIF).

When you say it won’t open then have you tried dragging and dropping one on Photoshop while it’s open? What are you doing and what happens when you do it?

Open ‘My Computer’
Follow the route to the ‘gif’
Right Click on it and then
Left Click on ‘Open With’
Then Left click on ‘Choose Program’
and mark ‘always choose the selected program’
Then, double click on Photoshop.

If Photoshop still can not view it,
do the routine again and choose something else.

IMAGE Ready is the better choice for opening animated GIF’s it will show you ALL the frames
PS can only show the first frame

yes, i’ve tried dragging it on photoshop while its open and i get an alert that says "Could not complete your request because it is the right kind of document." and i know that it is the right kind of document because i created the image in photoshop and saved it as a .GIF myself and it shows up as a .GIF in the folder it is located in.

I noticed that if i go to File> Open in Photoshop .GIF is missing from the drop down list of file formats when it *should* be there. so what i’m asking is if there is anything i can do to put it back on this list?
