Photoshop 5.0 won’t load

I am currently using Adobe Photoshop 5.0 limited edition on windows XP. The program comes up, then as soon as it tries to load it and the Photoshop box is up, it closes completely. As soon as the box says "read preferences…" it closes. I’ve had problems like this before, but it was nothing a reboot couldnt fix. I can’t think of anything that would cause this, because it was working earlier and i didnt download anything or change any settings. Any ideas and help is very appreciated! thanks

First, PS 5 running on XP is a risky proposition, although I know folks who even run v 4. Having said that, go to the support knowledge base and search for the location of the PS 5 preferences. I believe that there is an INI file and (possibly) a PSP file. Moving or renaming those with PS closed, and then restarting PS may solve the problem.

Why would someone go to the PS LE forum for a question about Photoshop, full version, even if it is an old one?
