I am in the process in getting ready to restore old photos. Which way would offer better quality. Either purchase a good quality camera copying stand and use a Cannon G1 or buying a photo scanner.

A photo scanner will win by a wide margin.

Buy a scanner. It’ll probably be cheaper than the photo stand and give more consistent results.
