thanks – since toolbars seem to get in the way of the image too often, i am glad that the estra real estate will be "used and useful". it is either a 24 (roundish face) or a flat 21 (not the artisan, sigh).. any further comments would be gratefully accepted.
Lawrence,
Only if it allows non standard resolutions. For instance if you work at 1600×1200 on a standard monitor to get more area out of the 24" monitor you would hope that it allows for say 2000×1200. Unfortunately I don’t think that is the case with that monitor.
Bruce you should read the product specs. Any advantages should be well documented. After all they need to have some selling points to get you to spend the extra money.
thanks for your patience…
it allows 1920/1200/76 Hz.
I went looking for info on a Sony 21" CRT last week and the only CRT that available from Sony was the Artisan – everything else was LCD’s. I just looked again I can’t find any other Sony CRT’s – do you have an address for Sony’s other monitors?

was going to buy used (NJ). details if you want. there are folks on ebay, but i would be hesitant to buy a used monitor that i had not seen in operation.
And be sure they know how to package and ship an instrument with a BIG crt!
Lawrence, I imagine the better dealers know what they are doing – but i would check the "breakage insurance" policies on my gold visa card <g>. btw, i ended up with an IBM P260 flat 21, for $225, loaded it in the car and am very happy with the purchase. of course, it has only a 30 day warranty but obviously the potential "early failure" went by while the previous owner had the machine.
