Performance deterioration

I am using version 6. The software has suddenly become extremely slow. Even with small files, it takes hours to open perform any operations. This is still the case after re-installation of the software.

The PC is apparently in good shape (it has still 2 Go RAM – at least this is what the system page says).

Do you have any idea of the cause of such a problem and how it could be fixed ? Is there a parameter within Photoshop that could have been midified ?

Thanks.

Sounds more like a PC problem than a PS problem.

What new software did you install before PS started getting sleepy? What about automatic updates? There might be a conflict happening in the background.

If you’ve not done so already, run a virus scan, clean out your cookies and other crap, do a defrag and maybe uninstall some useless and unused software that might be running in the background.

If that doesn’t help, I suggest that you have your hard drive checked out. If the hardware is okay and you’ve tried the other cleanup stuff, you may be facing a full format.

Good luck,

That’s what I would expect. Re-installing Photoshop did not help because there is nothing wrong with Photoshop. Something is wrong–very badly wrong–with your PC.

It might be a virus or a worm; it might be serious disk directory damage; it might be that your hard drive has developed bad sectors or is beginning to fail; it might be that you have defective RAM. You don’t have a Photoshop problem; you have a computer problem.

This sounds familiar. If you’re running version 6.0, upgrade to 6.0.1 and see if the problem goes away.
