I created a composite of two photographs and saved as a .psd file. Now I need to convert it to a JPEG but neither .jpg (or .gif) show up in the "Save As" file type drop down box.

I have tried to flatten the original image and reduce the file size but nothing works.

What am I missing?

Are you editing in 16 bit? If so you’ll need to change to 8.

I am having a similiar problem. the psd file is 8 bit, flattened, etc. I’ve never had this problem before. ie: no jpeg option available in ‘save as’.

Go to File—»Save For Web…

or Jump over to ImageReady.

Maybe it is some settings that are out.

I just opened two Tiffs, dragged one into the other: two layers.

Didn’t flatten; Save as… ; selected JPEG on the drop-down list: result: flattened JPEG.

PS CS on XP pro.

Yes, I am in RGB. Still won’t save as JPEG. I’ve even tried saving as tiff, gif and then from each of them into jpeg. Still no go.

It saved as a jpeg in ‘save for web’. Still don’t know why it wouldn’t in ‘save as’. Never had this problem before. Thanks anyway.

wolf,

Reset the preferences if for some strange reason that is the problem. If all else fails uninstall and reinstall Photoshop.

I don’t know about resetting the prefs. S4W strips out everything and MAKES the image savable in jpg or gif. There’s something about that file that’s incompatable with the jpg format. S4W removes it automatically, but at the cost of stripping all exif. If he found out what was the deal with the image he could do it manually.

John,

It will still let you save to JPG when the image has alpha channels.
